UNI's Mulder one step away from London

Former UNI track standout Tyler Mulder took the top spot in his semifinal heat Saturday night and now stands just one step away from competing in the 2012 Olympics.

Mulder, in the second semifinal, held back much of the race pacing himself near the back of the pack.  With 250 meters remaining, he made a charge on the inside of the track catapulting him to the top spot.  Over the final 150 meters he pulled away from 2011 US champion and his training partner Nick Symonds.

His time of 1:46.14 was the third fastest among the 16 semifinalists on Saturday evening.

Monday's final is set for 9:47 PM, Iowa time and will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
