Commerce Secretary resigns

Posted:
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

Commerce Secretary John Bryson is stepping down.

He sent a letter of resignation to President Obama saying that his recent seizure could be a distraction from doing his job. Bryson, 68,  had been on a medical leave since his involvement in two car accidents in California that his office indicated were linked to the seizure.

He was cited in the accident, but authorities haven't decided yet whether to file charges.

President Obama has accepted the resignation and thanked him for his service.
