Some Iowa Goodwill locations will stop accepting older TVs

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Some Goodwill stores in Iowa will stop accepting older televisions soon.

Goodwill of the Heartland, which has stores in southeast Iowa and the Quad Cities, says it's spent $150,000 disposing of unwanted televisions over the past five months.  Goodwill used to have a partnership that helped pay for recycling old sets, but that partnership has ended.

Goodwill stores in Bettendorf, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Iowa City Rock Island, Washington and some other Iowa cities have decided they won't be taking the televisions beginning July 1.

Goodwill of Northeast Iowa, which covers 22 counties in the northeast part of Iowa, has not been accepting TVs for several years.  A business development officer at Goodwill of Northeast Iowa says in the case someone would want to leave a TV, Goodwill may request a donation to help pay for the cost of disposal.
