Waterloo Fire Department investigating suspicious fire

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo fire fighters are investigating a suspicious fire that happened early Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to the nine hundred block of West 7th Street at just about five a.m.

The flames destroyed the home. No one was there at the time of the fire.

But just hours earlier police officers were called the same address. Police are not releasing those details.

The houses on both sides of it did sustain some damage. The Holdiman family lives next door, woke up to the fire and are glad they did, because their baby was sleeping just feet from the flames.

"I woke up to hearing a bunch of crackling noises and on my baby's monitor because her room is just right next to their house. I woke up, I went and looked out my back window and seen smoke. So I looked out my bathroom window and it was just bright flames," said Clark Holdiman.

"I immediately jumped my wife out of bed and we went grabbed our kids, went outside and the house was just flames shooting out every window," he said.
