Four injured near Earlville in weekend motorcycle crash

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded around noon on Saturday to an accident east of Earlville involving two motorcycles.

It happened near the intersection of 210th Street and 300th Avenue in the county.

The two motorcyclists were participating in the Romper Room motorcycle ride.

47-year-old motorcyclist Michael Sternhagen, of Belvidere, Ill., lost control of his motorcycle and flipped over as he entered the ditch on the side of the road. Both he and his passenger, 48-year-old Deeann Sternhagen, of the same address, were injured and taken by ambulance to area hospitals.

The second motorcyclist, 33-year-old Joshua Bates of Cedar Rapids, lost control of his motorcycle while trying to avoid Sternhagen's crash. However, Bates' motorcycle also flipped as it entered the ditch. Bates and his passenger, 42-year-old Eileen Chavez of Cedar Rapids, were injured and transported by ambulance to Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.
