New federal credit card complaint data base launched

Posted:
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

The first stage of an online database of customer credit card complaints is now on line.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's program allows consumers to file complaints against credit card companies and read other complaints online.  It also will show how the complaint was handled by the bank or card issuer. Consumer information will be kept confidential.

The new data base is in beta testing now. Consumers can go to the CFPB website to share complaints about credit card companies now.

In the past year, the bureau has collected more than 16,000 complaints from credit card users. Until the launch of the site, only banks, regulators, and people requesting information through the Freedom of Information Act had access to this information.
