One of the NFL's best-ever running backs has retired.

LaDainian Tomlinson signed with the Chargers and announced he's hanging up his cleats after 11 NFL seasons, nine of which he spent in San Diego.

Tomlinson leaves as the NFL's fifth-leading ball carrier with 13, 684 yards. He scored 145 TDs and was the league MVP in 2006.

Tomlinson was drafted in the first round by San Diego in 2001. He ended his playing time with two seasons in a New York Jets uniform.
