After 6-0 and 7-5 wins on Friday and Saturday, the Kernels finished the first half of the season with a 5-3 win on Sunday to complete the series sweep of the Kane County Cougars.

Cedar Rapids took the early 2-0 lead when Eric Stamets and Kaleb Cowart scored on an Andy Workman double into the left-center gap.

Cowart singled in the second inning sending Chevy Clarke and Alex Yarbrough home to give the Kernels the 4-0 lead.

Workman made it 5-0 in the fifth when he notched his seventh home run of the season.

Kane County finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Jorge Bonifacio singled, scoring Dean Espy.  Chevy Clarke's throwing error allowed Daniel Mateo to score, making it a 5-2 game.

The Cougars made it 5-3 when Orlando Calixte hit his 10th home run of the season.

Dan Reynolds started for Cedar Rapids, pitching four and two-thirds innings.  He allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

Mike Johnson picked up the win in relief.  He pitched one and one-third innings, allowing one run on one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.
