Civil war cemetery rededication ceremony in Black Hawk Co.

Posted:
BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -

In the mid-19th century, settlers made their way to Iowa.

Just a few years later, thousands of Iowans went to war and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the war between the states.

Civil war re-enactors gathered Saturday at Pioneer Cemetery just outside Waterloo to rededicate the graves of three Union soldiers from Black Hawk County.

Along with the firing of the cannon, there was a short ceremony where relatives of veterans spoke and troops gave a 21-gun salute.

All three of the veterans honored today were from Bennington Township - located between Waterloo and Denver.
