IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City residents gathered at Mercer Park in to celebrate Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is the celebration of the end of slavery.

There were plenty of things to do for all ages with a number of outdoor games, live music and the event was catered so there was enough hamburgers and hot dogs to go around. The Iowa City Fire Department was on hand showing off their truck and equipment to kids.

"You get a chance to just hang out meet some neighbors that you haven't met get to know their view of people that you may not normally connect with," said LaTasha Massey the events coordinator.

Saturday's event was free thanks to volunteers and sponsors.
