CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Thursday is Flag Day, and many Cedar Rapids neighborhoods are sporting row upon row of small American flags.

Every year Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty puts out the flags in neighborhoods where the agents work or live. In 2008, they added the flood effected Ellis Boulevard area to the flag route in 2008.

"It sparks enthusiasm patriotism, and people honk and wave and veterans pull over and chat," said Ben Wheeler of Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty. "It's a fun company event that we do."

The Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag on June 14, 1777. They decreed the first U.S. flag have 13 alternating red and white stripes and that the union have 13 white stars on a blue field, representing a new constellation.
