Cedar Rapids schools cuts ribbon on support center

The Cedar Rapids Community School District celebrated a flood recovery milestone Wednesday as it officially opened the doors at the new Educational Leadership and Support Center.

The 169,000 square foot building replaces five separate buildings damaged in the flood. This is the first time the district has had a single location for all their support departments.

"Its very important to the community to have the ability to have one stop shopping," Superintendent David Benson said. "Anything that the public has to do with the school district out side of their own school attendance area; they can come to one place and be served."

The $44.5 million dollar building was funded through FEMA, the state of Iowa, and silo funds.
