Former Panther Mahaffey signs with Miami Dolphins

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -
Former University of Northern Iowa fullback/tight end Ryan Mahaffey has signed with the NFL's Miami Dolphins, the team announced Tuesday.
 
Mahaffey played in five games for the Indianapolis Colts and made one reception in the 2011 season, but he was waived by the team on May 29. He was a member of the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad prior to joining Indianapolis in November of last year.
 
While at UNI from 2006-10, Mahaffey appeared in 51 games as a tight end and fullback. He started 43 games in his UNI career, making 25 receptions for 227 yards and six touchdowns. Mahaffey was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team as a freshman in 2007 and earned second-team All-MVFC honors in 2008 and 2009. He was also recognized on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team in 2009 and was an MVFC All-Academic pick in 2010.
