DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The President of the Republic of Kosovo is in Iowa getting farming and energy tips she can take back to her country.

"I was amazed what I've seen here and what you have done with this research center," said President Atifete Jahjaga who started her Iowa trip with a visit to the Iowa State Horticulture Research Station in Ames.

She was given a tour of the facilities and learned techniques we use here, including ways to grow a variety of different plants, how to sustain vegetables through a cold winter and how to prevent bug problems.

The techniques will be useful as Kosovo and Iowa have similar weather patterns.

Today, the Kosovo President also toured a cattle company in Nevada, the Next-Era Wind Energy Facility in Zearing and Camp Dodge.

She'll finish her visit to Iowa meeting with Governor Branstad on Friday.
