Concerts in downtown Cedar Rapids bring out the crowds

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Downtown Cedar Rapids transformed into a concert venue Saturday for a large event not seen since before the devastating floods in 2008.

Organizers say 4,000 tickets were sold, and many people arrived early for the event with many standing in a line that continued for blocks in the downtown area. Area business owners are pleased to see the foot traffic through the area.

"Any time we get additional bodies downtown it's good for the entire district. It creates activity and activity breeds more activity," said Mike Monnahan of the Blue Strawberry Coffee Company.

The concerts, headlined by performer Alan Jackson, were sponsored by the KHAK and KRNA radio stations. The events will continue into Sunday.
