A 24-foot mural featuring 60 eastern Iowans was unveiled in Cedar Rapids Friday night.

The artist of the mural called "You Know, We're All in This Together" says he was inspired by people from all different walks of life, living in the same community.

Tom Toluene signed up Iowans to have their portraits drawn as part of a three-day drawing marathon.  People who didn't make it into the mural, were given signed copies of their original protraits.

During the drawing marathon, he chatted with the subjects about their lives and viewpoints and then let those details form the portraits and larger work.

"This is art literally inspired by the people it portrays," said artist Tom Torluemke. "A divergent group of people and their views," he added.

The work is on display through August 31st, at the C.S.P.S hall in the New Bohemian district of Cedar Rapids.
