Columbus Girls Soccer falls short of 1A Title game

MUSCATINE (KWWL) -

It's the semifinal round at the 1A Girls State Soccer tournament in Muscatine and the unbeaten Waterloo Columbus Sailors continue their pursuit of a state championship.

Today the high scoring Sailors face perhaps their toughest test of the season against Sioux City Bishop Heelan.

The Sailors had their sights set on a title, but trailed 1-0 in the second half.

Ashlee Sinnott knocks one in on a header to tie it at 1 apiece.

Heelan would counter. Megan Glover finds the back of the net as the Crusaders take a 2-1 lead.

But a penalty gives Columbus new life as Kate Letkiewicz delivers... It's 2-2 tie.

That would soon become a Columbus lead on an own goal  3- 2 Sailors, but a late Heelan goal with 2 seconds to play forces overtime.

And in the extra session, Makayla Wessling drives home the winner. Columbus season ends with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss.
