Chiefs blank Kernels for second straight night

With only two hits, the Peoria Chiefs were able to shut out the Cedar Rapids Kernels for a second straight night.

After getting shut out 4-0 on Wednesday, the Kernels only allowed Peoria to get two hits on Thursday night, but the Chiefs made those hits count and shut out Cedar Rapids 2-0.  Kernels batters were struck out a season high 14 times.

Peoria scored it's first run in the first inning after Zeke DeVoss reached first base on a walk, moved to second on an error by Kernels first baseman Trevor Hairgrove during a pick-off attempt and then scored on a Taiwan Easterling single.

The Chiefs got their second hit and second run in the eighth.  Easterling reached first on a walk, stole second, and scored on a double by Anthony Giansanti.

Dan Reynolds took the loss for Cedar Rapids, despite only giving up one run on one hit in five innings.  He struck out two and walked three.

Frank De Jiulio struck out five in two innings of relief.  He allowed no hits and no runs.

Logan Odom pitched one inning for the Kernels, allowing one run on one hit.  He struck out one and walked two.

The Kernels wrap-up their series with the Chiefs in Peoria on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
