MUSCATINE (KWWL) -

With their sights set on a first ever state title, the unbeaten Columbus girls exploded in their first round 1A game Thursday.

Junior Ashley Sinnott scored 2 first half goals to put the Sailors on top of Council Bluffs Saint-Albert 2-0 at halftime.

Sophomore Lindsey McManus later added 2 goals as Columbus tallied 5 second half goals in a 7-0 rout to advance to the semifinals. Next up the Sailors hook up with Sioux City Heelan

Heelan's Makayla Wessling tallied the Crusaders 3rd goal of the day as they'd rout the Iowa City Regina 5 to zero.

On the other side of the 1A bracket, top ranked Davenport Assumption had their way with Center-Point Urbana.

Grace Fennelly picked up the first of 5 goals as the Knights rolled 5-0 win over the Stormin' Pointers.

In Class 2A, 6 time defending champion Cedar Rapids Xavier champ Cedar Rapids Xavier got a battle from ADM/Van Meter.

Kayla Armstrong notched her 30th goal of the year as the Saints hung on for a 2-1 victory.

On the other side, Union's Dayton Powell scored a late tying goal to eventually set up a penalty kick shootout against Glenwood.

The two teams traded goals through the first 4 rounds, but Powell's shot would be deflected off the cross-bar. That opened the door for Glenwood's MacKenzie Evans, and she finished it as the Knights drop a first round heartbreaker.

In 3A, Cedar Rapids Kennedy was thinking upset jumping to a 2-0 lead on number 3 Iowa City West.

The Women of Troy looked to make a late charge, but Ali Peterson's shot clangs off the cross-bar, and they got no closer. Kennedy moves on with a 2-0 win. Also top ranked Ankeny beat Linn-Mar 2-0.
