Unemployment benefit applications fell last week

Posted:

The number of people applying for unemployment benefits fell last week for the first time in five weeks.

According to the Labor Department, applications of jobless benefits dropped 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 377,000.

Most economists say that when applications are consistently below 375,000, it suggests job growth is strong enough to lower the unemployment rate.
