Verizon Wireless warning customers of email scam

Posted:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Verizon Wireless is warning customers of a new email phishing scam.  Some customers are getting an email that looks to be an official e-billing statement from the company.

The message will often show an unusually high balance statement.  The email likely won't include your account number as it does for actual customers.

Verizon urges you not to click on any links inside the bogus email.

The company released the following statement about the scam to KWWL:

"We are investigating a phishing attack involving bogus emails disguised as a Verizon Wireless online bill notification statement.

Customers who receive a suspicious email of this nature with a seemingly unusual balance statement are being advised not click on links in the email, but instead to access their account via their internet browser.  Non-customers should be aware that such an email would not be sent to them from Verizon Wireless and should not click on links in the email.  Those who receive such a bogus email may forward it to phishing@verizonwireless.com."
