International Roadcheck to monitor trucks and buses starts Tuesday

The Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State Patrol and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will be taking part in International Roadcheck 2012 Tuesday through Thursday.

The 25th Annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Roadcheck 2012 is a targeted enforcement program that focuses on North American Standard Level I inspections, motor coach inspections, hours of service logbooks, and household goods carriers.

The enforcement  program consists of 72 continuous hours of enforcement activity throughout Canada, Mexico and the United States.  An average of 14 trucks or buses are inspected every minute during the event.

In Iowa, inspections will be done at locations throughout the state on roadways identified as high-crash corridors.  Trucks or buses with serious safety violations will be taken out of service and not allowed to continue until they are repaired. Unqualified drivers will also be taken out of service.
