DENVER (KWWL) -

Waterloo Columbus put on an offensive and defensive clinic Monday night rolling past Clear Creek-Amana 7-0 to advance to the 1A state soccer tournament.

Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Sailors busted out scoring 5 times in the second half.  Sophomores Lindsey McManus and Lauren Nelson each tallied a pair of goals in the final 40 minutes sending Columbus to Muscatine.

"I'm just really shocked and surprised and happy for my team, Nelson said about her 2 goal performance, "We're one step closer to a state title, and that's a goal we've been working towards all year, so it's really great."

"They are a good bunch of girls, and they deserve to win," said head coach Jose Infante, "It's been a long road, this is our first ever undefeated season, and hopefully we'll continue to do that."

Waterloo Columbus opens state tournament play Thursday versus Council Bluffs-Saint Albert.
