TXTL8R: Fewer than 100 texting & driving tickets written since Iowa's ban launched

Since Iowa's law banning texting while driving began last year, the Iowa State Patrol says it's written fewer than 100 tickets.

The Iowa State Patrol has issued 96 tickets and 48 warnings since July 1st of last year.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, there have been 119 convictions.

Officers say the law is difficult to enforce because it's a secondary offense, meaning a driver must be doing something else wrong, like speeding, before an officer can pull him or her over.
