WATERLOO (KWWL) -

42-year-old Dustin Robbins of Waterloo faces charges after police say he robbed a Waterloo convenience store then led officers on a chase through a cornfield Sunday evening.

It happened just before 6 p.m. at the B & B East Store at Independence and Bishop Avenues. A clerk told police a man came in with a gun and asked for money, then drove away with the cash in a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Officers found the truck nearby, but the driver drove away when he saw police. He lead officers on a chase through fields south of Independence Avenue until the SUV got stuck in a creek. He ran away, but officers were able to catch him about a mile away.

Robbins was taken to an area hospital for treatment before being arrested. He's being held without bond on charges of robbery and possession of a weapon as a felon.
