Free fishing weekend - KWWL - Eastern Iowa Breaking News, Weather, Closings

Free fishing weekend

Dozens of people were out on George Wyth Lake Saturday afternoon, enjoying a day of free fishing.

Every year on the first weekend in June, the Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources allows people to fish without purchasing a fishing license.

They hope that the small taste of time on the water will entice people to buy a full pass for the rest of the summer.

The DNR does conduct health checks on the fish in the lakes.

They say the fish in George Wyth Lake are safe to eat, should you choose to keep your catch.
