Waterloo man survives natural gas blast

A Waterloo man survives after an explosion blew out the back wall of his house. The blast happened a little after 9:30 Thursday night.

A neighbor rushed to the home to help out the resident, Lester Leigh. He declined medical treatment.

Waterloo fire fighters say the pilot light in the water heater went out and was rekindled. But a gas line that fueled a clothes dryer was opened. The dryer had been removed and the line was never capped. They say the natural gas filled up the basement until it blew up.
