Kernels snap 4-game skid with win over Wisconsin

The Cedar Rapids Kernels ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Perfect Game Field.

Trevor Hairgrove started things off for the Kernels, leading off the first inning with a triple.  He scored on the next pitch when Ryan Jones grounded out to make it 1-0.  Kaleb Cowart then doubled and came home when Frazier Hall hit his fifth home run of the season to make it 3-0 Kernels.

The Kernels scored the final run of the game in the second inning when Chevy Clarke started things off with a walk, moved to second on a balk, went to third on a Wendell Soto single and then came home when Hairgrove grounded out.

Eswarlin Jimenez got the win, pitching seven innings for the Kernels.  He allowed five hits, struck out five and walked two.

Logan Odom pitched the eighth inning and Stephen Tromblee pitched the ninth.  Tromblee struck out all three Timber Rattlers batters.

The Kernels wrap-up the series with Wisconsin on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. before heading back out on the road.
