Kings beat Devils in New Jersey

The Los Angeles Kings are three wins away from the first Stanley Cup in the team's 45-year history after taking Game 1 of the finals.

Anze Kopitar  scored on a breakaway at 8:13 of overtime to give the Kings a 2-1 win over the Devils in New Jersey. Kopitar's seventh goal of the postseason leaves Los Angeles 9-0 on the road in the postseason, and 3-0 in overtime games.

Colin Fraser opened the scoring midway through the first period, and the Kings stayed ahead until Anton Volchenkov tied it late in the second. Jonathan Quick was perfect in the third period and OT to finish with 17 saves, backstopping the Kings' NHL-record 11th consecutive road victory dating to last season.

The Devils have dropped the opener in three of their four series and have trailed in each round.

The series stays in New Jersey for Game 2 on Saturday night on KWWL.
