Former NU High teacher and coach arrested

Troy Elliott Troy Elliott

A former teacher and football coach at NU High was arrested Thursday morning and charged with providing alcohol to kids.

Troy Elliott, 32, who was a math teacher and the head football coach, left the school back in November for personal reasons.  Police say he was placed on administrative leave in the fall of 2011, but continued to tutor students.

Cedar Falls Police Chief Jeff Olson confirms to KWWL that Elliott is charged with three counts of providing alcohol to persons underage.

Police say that a parent told them that Elliott had given alcohol to three former students on May 7 while they were at his house for tutoring.

Wednesday was the last day of classes at the school which is scheduled to close for good on June 30, pending the outcome of a lawsuit.  Supporters say the Iowa Board of Regents doesn't have the authority to close the school.
