Linn Co. man arrested after chase, standoff

Posted:
LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -

One man is in custody after a four hour chase and stand off involving Linn and Benton County authorities.

Police arrested Gary Arntzen, 61, after he took authorities on a chase in the areas of Shellsburg and Palo and then locked himself in his garage.

The chase started at 6:58 p.m. Wednesday. About an hour and a half later, Arntzen drove his 1993 Chevrolet pick-up into the Sisley Grove Cemetery and through a corn field. That's when he got out of his pick-up and locked himself in his garage at 11200 16th Ave. SW and refused to come out.

Law enforcement tried to make negotiations with Arntzen to come out. At about 11:00 p.m., authorities deemed the negotiations unsuccessful and the Linn County Sheriff's Office Immediate Response Unit entered the garage.  Arntzen wouldn't listen to commands and had to be tasered.

He is currently in the Linn County Jail and his charges are pending.  The cause of the incident is under investigation.
