Cedar Falls Girls fall short at State Golf


At the girls state golf tournament, defending 4A state champion Cedar Falls came up short in its quest to repeat. The Tigers led by 11 strokes after day one and as a team shot 17 strokes better Wednesday than Thursday, but Waukee shot lights out to rally for an eight shot victory. Waukee made a remarkable 47 stroke improvement to win the title. Allison Rolinger, of Cedar Falls, was second in the 4A medalist race while teammate Taylor Roberts was fifth.

In 3A, Clear Lake edged out the Charles City girls for the top spot. Jesse Sindlinger of Charles City won her third straight individual title. Sindlinger rallied from five strokes down to beat day one leader Mackenzie Black of Independence by one stroke.

In 2A, Dyersville Beckman ran away with the championship by 61 strokes. Cascade was third, Dike-New Hartford fifth and Wapello was sixth. Beckman's Ellie Ament won medalist honors by 11 shots.

And in 1A Bishop Garrigan won the team title by 67 shots. Perennial power Grundy Center was second while HLV was third.
