CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Quad Cities River Bandits scored 12 runs in two innings on their way to a 16-6 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Memorial Day.

After going down 2-0, the Kernels came out in their half of the first, cutting the lead in half when Ryan Jones sprinted from second to home while River Bandits first baseman Roberto De La Cruz was arguing with the field umpire on a close play at first on a fielder's choice put in play by Frazier Hall.

Quad Cities then came out in the second, scoring six runs to make it 8-1 River Bandits.

The scoring subsided until the fifth inning when the River Bandits scored a run to make it 9-1.

The Kernels scored two more runs in their half of the fifth.  Carlos Lugo got on base with the help of a River Bandits error.  He then moved to third when Wendell Soto doubled.  Lugo and Soto both scored when Kevin Moesquit doubled, making the score 9-3.

The River Bandits added another run in the seventh, extending their lead to 10-3.

The Kernels tried again to cut their deficit when Soto scored in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Jones making the score 10-4.

The River Bandits put it out of reach in the top of the ninth, scoring six more runs to make it a 16-4 ball game.

Cedar Rapids made one last attempt, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a Kaleb Cowart RBI single.  But, 16-6 was as close as they could get.

Jairo Diaz took the loss for Cedar Rapids.  He allowed nine runs and struck out five in six innings of work.

The Kernels wrap-up the series with Quad Cities on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.  The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers come to town on Wednesday for a three-game series before the Kernels hit the road again.
