Memorial Day in the Cedar Valley

Cedar Falls residents saluted veterans at the AMVETS Post #49 Monday. Outside the building, more than 300 memorial flags stood in the park along Waterloo Road. Each one represents a fallen soldier.

Inside, there was a breakfast for veterans. The Sons of AMVETS hosted the event to mark the Memorial Day holiday.

"I hope they all get out, that they realize what our vets have done for us, and what they've gone through, and their sacrifices they have to go through after coming back," John Onken said.

All the money raised goes toward the Marshalltown Veteran Home.

In downtown Waterloo, hundreds of people lined the streets Monday to honor those who served in the military.

Many gathered to show their patriotism along the route that leads from Commercial Street to the Veterans Memorial Hall.
