Sweet Tooth: Greaser's Drive-In in Guttenberg

Clayton Ridge High School students made a stop at Greaser's Drive-In in Guttenberg for some ice cream.

"You say it's the best ice cream in town? Oh yes," said the students.

Greaser's is owned by Rob and Sherri Moser. Sherri actually worked at the old drive-in in the 1980s for a summer job while she was in high school. Then in 1991, she and Rob built the current building on the same site.

"We want to keep the drive-in life alive," said Sherri Moser.

Everything from the name Greaser's to old car items on the walls helps keep the past alive for customers.

"We just like the old world nostalgic drive-in, the greasers from the 50s," said Moser.

The drive-in offers a variety of items, including more than 30 flavors of ice cream.

"Malts, shakes, homemade burgers and mostly lots of ice cream," said Sherri Moser.

Moser said one reason so many people want ice cream -- it's hand scooped and literally loaded onto the cones.

"We like to see their faces when they see that huge cone. We want people to come back and be satisfied," she said.

Greaser's is open February through October. It's located right off Highway 52 in Guttenberg and open six days a week. The Mosers take Mondays off.

Sherri Moser said she's stuck with the drive-in business for almost 30 years for one simple reason.

"I love the people," she said.

And the people love Greaser's.

"You can't go wrong," said the Clayton Ridge students.
