The president of a condominium association in Tiffin is facing a theft charge for allegedly misusing money.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says that Kelli Kay Holton, 30, was arrested on Thursday following an investigation into missing funds from the condominium association that Holton was the president of.

According to the criminal complaint, Holton was the president of the association in 2010 and 2011.  During that time, garbage collection was stopped because of non-payment and the insurance company contacted the association saying that premiums had not been paid.  Deputies also say the bank contacted the association saying that there were overdrafts on their account.

According to the sheriff's office, an audit of the account showed that more than $3,000 had been spent on things other than what the money was intended for and the account was empty.

Deputies say Holton told them she must have mistakenly used the wrong checkbook when writing checks for her house payment, gas, gifts and parking at University of Iowa parking ramps.

Holton is charged with second degree theft.
