Cedar Rapids man convicted of selling crystal meth from garage

A Cedar Rapids man has been found guilty of selling crystal methamphetamine out of his garage for the past four years.

Kurt Alexander, 57, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and three separate counts of distributing methamphetamine on Thursday after a three day federal trial.

Court officials say that the jury found that the crimes took place within 1,000 feet of a playground.

According to the court, evidence showed that Alexander agreed to sell methamphetamine to numerous individuals from 2008 until February 2012.

Records show that a confidential informant bought methamphetamine from one of Alexander's co-conspirators three different times.  They say surveillance showed the co-conspirator driving to Alexander's house to get the drugs from Alexander inside of the garage.  Numerous witnesses testified to buying methamphetamine from the co-conspirator and Alexander.

A sentencing date has not been set, but Alexander faces 10 years to life in prison, a $20,000,000 fine and 10 years to life of supervised release following any prison time.
