IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City father faces a trespassing charge after police say he tried to pull his son off the soccer field.

Officers were on duty at Iowa City High's substate soccer game at Longfellow Elementary on Wednesday at around 6:00 p.m. when they say they watched Benjamin Ingell Hazard Doyle, 51, run on the field and try to pull his son off the field.

After stepping off the field, police say Doyle told them and City High staff that he told his son he couldn't play because his grades were too low.

City High staff told police that the boy's grades were high enough to play for the school.  Police also say that the boy's mom said he was allowed to play.

Doyle told police that he let his temper get the best of him and he knew he wasn't allowed to run on the field.

Doyle was given a trespass warning to all City High property and athletic events.
