The Kernels used three home runs to down the Snappers in Beloit on Wednesday night.

Down 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Kernels took the lead on back-to-back home runs.  Andy Workman's two-run shot to left tied the game at 2-2.  Then, Gary Mitchell's solo shot to left-center gave Cedar Rapids the 3-2 lead.

The Kernels extended their lead to 5-2 in the sixth inning when Mitchell hit his third home run in two games, a two run shot to left-center.

The Snappers got their final run in the ninth inning on a bases loaded, sacrifice fly, but the Kernels were able to get out of the inning on a 5-4-3 double play.

Jairo Diaz got the win, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings of work.  Ty Kelley picked up his seventh save, allowing one unearned run on one hit.

The Kernels and Snappers play again Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m.  The Kernels return home for the Memorial Day weekend, starting a series with Quad Cities on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
