Devils take 3-2 lead against Rangers


The New Jersey Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes but needed a go-ahead goal by Ryan Carter with 4:24 left to beat the New York Rangers 5-3 and take a 3-2 series lead in their Stanley Cup Eastern Conference.

The Devils grabbed the early 3-0 lead on goals by Stephen Gionta  Patrik Elias and Travic Zajac in the first 10 minutes. But the Rangers regrouped to tie before the late goal by Carter.  Zach Parise added an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Martin Brodeur stopped 25 shots between the pipes for the Devils.

Game 6 will be in Newark, N.J., Friday night.
