UPDATE: Possible election misconduct investigation in Washington County

The Washington County Auditor's Office is currently investigating a case of possible election misconduct.

Washington County Auditor Daniel Widmer says they are investigating a violation after a letter and an enclosed absentee ballot request form was sent to some residents of District 1. The letter requests residents to vote for a specific candidate for the Washington County Supervisor's race: Jack Seward. The letter does not indicate who wrote or sent it.

Widmer says whomever sent this letter faces a misdemeanor charge. The auditor does not believe Seward in involved.

Seward has released a statement via e-mail saying that he had nothing to do with the letter and he does not know who is responsible for it.

"Because it is apparent that those responsible are supporters of my candidacy, I will attempt to identify whomever is responsible for the material and it's distribution," Seward said.  "I will further encourage them to come forward and take responsibility for their actions."
