Gov. Branstad to meet with BPI workers Friday


Friday is the last day of pay for workers at Beef Products, Inc. who are losing their jobs.  Gov. Terry Branstad will be in Waterloo that morning to meet with workers about what comes next.

More than 200 workers will be out of a job, when BPI officially closed operations at its Waterloo plant, located inside Tyson Foods. The company has decided to halt operations permanently after controversy surrounding its product called "lean finely textured beef".

Branstad will hold a meeting at Hawkeye Community College, joined by Iowa Workforce Development director Teresa Wahlert and BPI co-founder Regina Roth.

The focus of the meeting will be on state & local resources available to assist workers find new employment and job training assistance.
