Softball team remembers Waterloo murder victim

Lindsay Nichols was 22 when she died in March after an argument with an ex-lover, who shot her, then himself outside a home in Jesup.

Volunteers have built a deck in Nichols' memory for the Waterloo East High Women's Softball Complex.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held before Monday's game against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

"On top of having a real strong family that still supports East High athletics, we just feel that it's the right thing to do," Chad Adams, volunteer, said. "It works out well, best seat in the house! We're really proud that we're able to do it."

The girl's team has dedicated the season to Nichols' memory.

Her parents threw out the first pitch at Monday's season opener.
