Cold snap in April may effect Iowa crops

DECORAH (KWWL) -

A warm March and surprisingly chilly April has had a negative effect on crops in Iowa. Officials say freezing temperatures last month damaged crops throughout the state.

Experts say up to 80 percent of the apple crop in eastern Iowa has been ruined. Experts also estimate Iowa strawberry production will be reduced by 20 percent.

Many growers began planting earlier than usual because of the unusually warm weather in March and April.
