Texting while driving believed to be factor in Iowa crash

BETTENDORF (KWWL) -

By now, you'd think there would be no need to remind anyone of the potential perils linked to texting while driving.

Unfortunately, that is not the case, as evidenced by an Eastern Iowa accident Tuesday in Bettendorf.

Police believe 24-year old Jennifer De Clerck, of Moline, Illinois, was texting just before her crash on Interstate 74.

De Clerck was driving northbound on the heavily traveled I-74 when she hit the side of a ramp. She then struck a tree before landing in a roadside ditch. The crash injured De Clerck, who was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital. Her condition has not been made public.

The accident also serves as a reminder why you should take the KWWL Pledge to not text and drive. To take 'The Pledge,' go to the kwwl.com Homepage and link on to ‘Text Later.'
