A Waterloo man has been charged with theft in connection with the theft of numerous artifacts from the Cedar Falls Historical Society.

58-year old David Lynn Arnold of Waterloo has been charged with Theft in the 1st Degree, a Class C Felony.

The Cedar Falls Historical Society says Arnold was placed at the historical society through a program. According to police, employees at the Cedar Falls Historical Society said they became suspicious when they observed Arnold mishandling some property at the Historical Society museum. Police later determined that Arnold had stolen antique firearms, bayonets and World War I & II era clothing worth $13,000.

Police recovered the stolen items in a Waterloo home where Arnold resides. Police arrested Arnold and transported him to the Black Hawk County jail.
