Waterloo unanimously rejects construction plan for lot near Crossroads Estates

The Waterloo City Council unanimously rejected a plan that would have allowed construction of housing on the vacant land near Crossroads Estates Monday night.

It's an area which has seen little development for nearly 30 years.

Robson Homes wanted to build four-plex style properties, while Cedar Rapids-based Skogman Homes wants single family homes. The council rejected both.

Bruce Wingert with Robson Homes says the vote is disappointing, but they will move on.

"It's unfortunate, but we'll see if he decides to take business elsewhere," Wingert said.

"It's a council decision on land use. We just made a suggestion for one way of doing it as another [was] being presented," Kevin Firtto with Skogman Homes said.

Mayor Buck Clark said the council has done its research on this issue and the land would be better served with single family or duplexes than four-plexes.
