DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque police say that a stabbing report made by a woman on Tuesday was false.

Officers were called to 140 Loras Boulevard, apartment 1, at around 9:05 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a stabbing.

Mary Padulla, 50, told officers that she had been stabbed by someone she didn't know.  She was treated at Finley Hospital for her injuries and released.

As part of their investigation, investigators met with Padulla on Thursday and they say that is when she admitted that she had stabbed herself and lied to police.

The case has been forwarded to the Dubuque County Attorney's Office.

Falsely reporting a felony is a serious misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $315 to $1,875 and up to one year in jail.
