AOTW: Lindsay McManus, Sailor's dual threat

As a freshman, Lindsay McManus played a key role in the Columbus Sailors' team tennis state title.  As a sophomore, she hopes to do the same for the Sailors soccer team.

"It'd be really, really exciting to try to step up and get both this year, and we definitely have the potential," McManus said.

So far this season, McManus led the Sailors with 19 goals.  She had 24 last year, her first as a Sailor.

"She used to come over to soccer camps," recalled head coach Jose Infante. "And she was probably one of the best girls I saw there that are coming out and giving everything with a good attitude, win or lose."

McManus is surrounded by one of the best overall squads in the state.  The Sailors are currently ranked second in class 1A and have gone perfect late into the season.

"We do have a lot of talent on defense and in goal of course to like up top," McManus said. "Everyone steps up and plays there part every single game, and that's what makes everything so amazing."

Once again, however, soccer's not her only focus.  Nor is it her family's.  Her brother James, playing at an academy in Texas this year, won a state singles title last season and also teamed up with his sister to take third at the co-ed meet.

As for McManus, she's moved to number one singles for Columbus this season and hopes the Sailors can experience a second straight team title.

"The excitement during that last match, it was amazing.  I teared up and everyone was hugging.  It was one of the happiest moments of my life," McManus said.
