ASBURY (KWWL) -

Asbury city council member Mike Cyze is resigning from his position, and the city is looking to fill his spot.

Cyze submitted his resignation notice at the council's meeting on Tuesday, May 8. The resignation won't be effective, however, until June 1.

This spring, the Dubuque Community School District announced it's hiring Cyze in a newly-created public relations and communications position. Cyze currently works at his alma mater Clarke University as the executive director of communication.

Asbury city administrator Beth Bonz said Cyze would legally have been able to continue in both duties but Cyze cited a concern over his ability to make the time commitment to both positions at once.

Voters in Asbury elected Cyze to a four-year term with the city council in November of 2009. He begins his job with the district in early June.

Anybody interested in the position can submit a letter to Asbury's city hall at 5080 Asbury Road by noon on May 21. The new council member will serve a term through Dec. 31, 2013.
